KOZHIKODE: A meeting chaired by Mayor Thottathil Raveendran with the elected representatives and officials of various government departments here on Tuesday decided to implement Mission Brahmaputra to take up projects to put an end to recurring flooding in the corporation limits during the monsoon season. The project will be executed with the active support of various government departments.
The mayor also entrusted executive engineer Udhayan as a nodal officer of the mission. The mayor also directed the irrigation department to prepare a detailed project report to end the flow of wastewater to Connolly Canal passing through the heart of the city. The meeting also decided to take stern actions against people draining wastewater to streams, ponds and other water sources in the corporation limits. Mayor informed that a meeting will be held with the irrigation minister to ensure funding for the execution of the various projects submitted by the district irrigation department to curb flooding in the city limits.
The meeting also took up Rs 10 lakh project to curb flooding at Munnalingal. Mayor informed that the corporation will provide administrative sanction to 98 projects to eliminate flooding during the monsoon.
The projects will be implemented on an emergency basis including it under the Ayyangali Urban Employment Guarantee scheme.
